As you all may or may not know, The Official Quarantine Cookbook came about as a result of my kids’ school closure in March, due to COVID-19. We made a national bestselling cookbook! If it wasn’t for my kids, none of this would have happened.

The book was an instant hit, and we raised funds for some worthy charities. We at TOQC believe in the ability to be “the global kitchen that gives back” and in the spirit of such, we are happy to announce that we have created a second book, and we have selected our charities.

BOOK 3 CHARITIES

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Humboldt-Donated $6,000

Many young people find themselves in vulnerable situations and facing adversities such as mental health issues, family violence, identity issues or poor living conditions, which put these youth at risk of not reaching their full potential.  With the guidance and support of a mentor, these risks can be avoided, and these young people can gain the confidence to achieve more – higher incomes, happier lives, more contributions to their communities. Our mentors advise and challenge these young people, act as their champions, provide greater consistency in their lives, connect them to broader experiences, opportunities and networks, and provide safe, nonjudgmental environments in which the child or youth can confide anything.

BOOK 2 CHARITIES-Total Donated $23,500

Between the day these books go on sale (to be announced), and December 31, 2020 “The Second Wave” (book#2) will be supporting 2 charities:

EMPTY ARMS

This organization provides support to families who have lost a child from conception to age 6. They offer connections and support for grieving families, helping them to navigate their heartbreaking loss. TOQC will be donating a portion of the profits to some of the following: 1 in 4 mothers who experience miscarriage, 1 in 160 families whose baby is stillborn, and countless others whose little ones under 6 leave imprints on their family’s hearts. Empty Arms knows the demand for their in-hospital services continues to grow as more people become aware of the service they offer. With your support of this book, TOQC can give back, and that means less families will have to walk the path of loss alone.
You can learn more about Empty Arms by going to their Facebook page, or their website www.emptyarmspls.com

SIZE SMALL DOG RESCUE

Size Small Dog Rescue is a volunteer based non-profit organization. In the beginning, the primary focus was on small dogs, but Size Small grew, and so did the dogs Size Small works with shelters, northern communities and owners who feel they can no longer care for their dogs. These dogs come from all over Saskatchewan, Canada, the United States, and even as far south as Mexico.
When a dog comes into the rescue, they are placed with a foster home where they are fed, driven to adoption events, taken to the vet for wellness check ups, and loved until they can find a new “forever” home.
While in the care of the rescue, Size Small buys food and toys, in addition to covering vet bills. Vet bills may include everything from a spay/neuter to vaccinations and microchips. Some dogs need extra help for things like porcupine quill removal and even dental work, and Size Small pays these vet costs too. The funds that come to Size Small are 100% through donations from their generous supporters, and all funds go directly care for the dogs. The portion of profits which Size Small receives from TOQC will mean more dogs will go from being unwanted, or sleeping on a cold floor in a shelter, (or a snowbank) to having a home and a family to love them.  You can learn more about Size Small Dog Rescue by visiting their Facebook Page or their website at www.ssdr.ca

BOOK 1 CHARITIES-Total Donated $55,000

WOUNDED WARRIORS CANADA

As a front line peace officer myself, I have watched this organization in action.  Front line workers experience a large mental impact on a normal day to day type basis.  Once you include the stress of a pandemic, their stress only increases.  Wounded Warriors is a national mental health service provider utilizing clinical best practices and evidence-based care to create an environment of compassion, resiliency and hope for Canada’s Veterans, First Responders and their families.

CANADIAN MENTAL HEALTH ASSOCIATION

Understanding there are many many people on The Official Quarantine Cookbook site who are not front line staff, it was important to me that if anyone was struggling that they would have somewhere safe to seek help.  The Canadian Mental Health Association offers a number of resources and programs at no charge, which are accessible to the general public.
